For Denver’s Fan Expo, I made a Raya and the Last Dragon costume for my girlfriend. Apart from altered pants, each piece was patterned and made from scratch. The idea was to take the cartoon and make a version that seemed as if it was from a live action film. This involved an extended search for various fabrics that fit the original feel of the costume.
The arm guards were made of EVA foam that were then covered in faux leather. The belt and vest were made of 3D printed parts and faux leather. After the costume was sewn, my girlfriend took the time to embroider each of the designs on the pants and cape which truly made it come to life.
Future Plans:
There is a beautiful collapsible sword that is featured in Raya and the last Dragon that will be made at some point in the future. I am working on how mechanically it will work at the moment, and updates will be posed when they are more defined. There were also talks with my girlfriend about making Tuk Tuk, Raya's bug, armadillo, pug hybrid mount, but because of lack of storage in my current situation, this seems like a less realistic goal (for now).
